About EAPB

The Environmental Assessment Practitioners Board (EAPB,is a body corporate,non profit board,established under Section 20 of the Environmental Assessment (EA) Act of 2020.

The main purpose of the board is to Register and Certify Practitioners in terms of Section 38 of the EA Act.This is to promote sustainable management of the environment,through realization of quality environmental assessment in Botswana,thus subscribing to sustainable development goals and National priorities.

The Board upholds high standards of admission into practice and reaffirms its commitment to being customer centric,deliver quality service through functional committees and a full operational and resourced Secretariat.This commitment is anchored on the Board’s Core Values,its Mission and Vision,as well as its Strategic Plan.

The Board has a set of core values that promotes professionalism, high standards in engaging with its customers and the Association membership. The Board’s core values are:

To coordinate the implementation of the Board’s core mandate, the Board has developed a 2018-2021 Medium Term Strategic Plan. The plan key objectives are:

  • To adhere to global standards in the execution of our mandate.
  • To embark on stakeholder education and sensitization about our mandate.
  • To improve the country’s competitiveness in doing business and promoting Sustainable Development.
  • To contribute to the country’s skill development targeting youth.
  • To network and collaborate with strategic partners in the EA process.
  • To source resources to meet the mandate of the Association.
  • register and certify qualified persons as environmental assessment practitioners in accordance with the Environmental Assessment Act and Regulation (see downloads);
  • establish and maintain a register of individuals who are qualified to operate as practitioners;
  • ensure promotion of sustainable development through the practice of environmental assessment;
  • promote continued professional development;
  • liaise with the Tertiary Education Council and any other relevant body in relation to the accreditation of education institutions;
  • determine fees payable to the Association by registered persons as prescribed in Schedule C of the Regulations;
  • prescribe and enforce a Code of Conduct (see downloads).
  • define the type of work to be performed by a registered person (see Schedule A) liaise with the Tertiary Environment Council or its successor in and other relevant bodies on matters of accreditation of institutions advise the Minister on environmental assessment issues or issues that may impact on sustainable development as necessary;
  • advocate with relevant government department information on matters of public importance acquired during the course of its work; and
  • communicate with its members through appropriate media.

The Board is comprised by eleven (11) members, duly constituted as prescribed in Section 22 (1) of the EA Act of 2010. The Board has a two-year tenure (2019-2021).
