Certification Process

The certification process is as outlined below:

  • Applicants must apply for certification using the appropriate application form, depending on the category being applied for;
  • Forms are downloadable from this website under forms, or may be requested in writing or by phone or fax from the Secretary of the Board;
  • 'Application for Certification' Form should be filled in when one is applying for certification;
  • The form must be accompanied by a comprehensive CV (in BEAPA CV Format -  is different for Asessors and Consultants ), sealed references (in BEAPA Reference Form)  and other documentation as required for the category being applied for;
  • The confidential references from 2 referees: either academic, professional EAP or from one's client must be submitted independently;
  • The application must be accompanied by deposit slip (applicant's name as reference)  or cheque for all applicable fees, which will be non-refundable in the event that the application fails. The fee comprises of the (i) initial registration fee; (ii) annual subscription; and the certification fee appropriate for the level applied for;
  • Twelve (12) copies of the application package must be submitted including the original copy, which should be marked as such;
  • Applications must be submitted at least 2 weeks before the applications assessment meetings to the Registrar by post, courier or personal delivery;
  • The Board will review applications strictly in the order received;
  • The applicants will receive a response no more than 2 weeks after the Board review meeting;
  • Successful applicants will be issued with a formal certificate and can place letters (to be determined) signifying that they are certified EAPs behind their name;
  • An applicant can appeal to the Appeals Committee if his or her applicant is rejected by the Board;
  • Renewal of certifcation is every year (certification fee and annual subscription fee to be paid);
  • All the 12 submissions must be arranged as follows:
    • Cover letter
    • Completed Application Form for Certification
    • Completed CV Format Form (please do not modify the form in any way)
    • Certified Copies of Qualification Certificates (and transcript if certificate does not specify subjects majored in)
    • Certified Copies of ID/Passport/Residence and Work Permits
    • Proof of Payment of Applicable Fees (use applicant's name as reference - without this we will not be able to trace your fees to you)


Non-resident applicants must note that Sections 41 (b) and (c) of the Environmental Assessment Act, No. 10 of 2011 prescribe the following conditions for registration and certification of non-residents of Botswana:

(i) the applicant should hold a valid recognized certificate to practise as a practitioner in their country; and

(ii) there is reciprocal recognition of the Botswana Association in the country where the applicant originates.
